Government’s first ECNEC meeting today, 17 projects getting priority
The first meeting of the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) under the new government is being held today. There are 17 projects on the agenda. The implementation of which may cost about Tk 11,500 crore. Out of these, 9 are new projects.
The meeting is scheduled to be held at 10:30 am today, Monday (April 6) in the Cabinet Room of the Secretariat, chaired by Prime Minister and ECNEC President Tarique Rahman. Breaking with tradition, the ECNEC meeting is being organized at the Secretariat instead of the Planning Commission. The last-minute information about the change of venue was announced last Sunday night.
The Planning Commission said that a proposal of Tk 11 billion has been given for the restoration of the Karatoya River. In addition, about Tk 1,500 crore may be spent on the universal social infrastructure development project. The proposal for the construction of border roads is Tk 36,660 crore. In addition, ECNEC may discuss the water supply project of the capital Dhaka. The Padma Barrage project is not on the agenda.
It is worth noting that after the new government came to power, ECNEC was formed on February 24 with Prime Minister Tarique Rahman as its chairman. Local Government Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has been made the alternate chairman of the committee.
