Government to decide soon on national elections and referendum: Adviser Rizwana
Adviser on Forest, Environment and Climate Change Syeda Rizwana Hasan said that the entire government will sit together and decide on national elections and referendum and the decision will be announced soon. She said this while talking to reporters at the Secretariat today, Monday (November 10).
She said that the government has said that the political parties should reach an agreement on the areas where they do not agree and inform the government. I have learnt that the political parties have not gone through that process yet. We have said that it would be best if the political parties sit down and resolve the issue themselves; and if they cannot resolve it themselves, the government will take a stand. Now that 7 days have passed, the government will sit down and discuss among themselves and announce the decision it thinks is good. The government will talk to all of us with a possible solution in mind and reach a decision, which will be announced soon. There is no point in imposing the decision.
The adviser said that since the political parties did not sit down within 7 days, the government will take the decision. No one said that the government cannot take a decision. The government has a responsibility, it has to take a decision and overcome the deadlock. We will not have to wait long to know the decision. The entire government will sit together to take a decision on the national elections and referendum and the decision will be announced soon.
Stating that the government’s door is open to everyone, he said, “I have not heard anything like this so far. When the entire government sits down to take a decision, if there is a decision to hold talks with political parties again, it will be announced. I think this time the government itself will clarify its position on the issues. I will not bring any ‘ifs’ or ‘buts’ before the government’s decision. No one said that they will not take the government’s decision. The government does not fulfill its responsibility to anyone. The government will take the decision it thinks is best, considering the expectations of the people and the thoughts of the political parties.”
He said that elections are going to be held in February, various attempts are being made to muddy the waters here. Now, the interim government is firmly on the path to elections, which is clear to the people of the country. Some vested interests are working around the elections, whether it is called a failed government or an evil force. Whenever unrest arises, the government will make every effort to control it. First, care will be taken to ensure that no one can create unrest. Even then, if unrest arises, measures will have to be taken to deal with it. The environmental advisor further said that no one is saying that there is no equal opportunity in the elections or that the government is neglecting this issue. If anyone can show clear complaints, the government will take action. All kinds of cooperation will be provided to the EC to ensure equal opportunity. Hopefully, it will be possible to hold fair and peaceful elections.
