Government satisfied with investigation into Secretariat fire.
The government is satisfied with the report of the investigation committee formed into the Secretariat fire, Syeda Rizwana Hasan, adviser to the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, said. She said this while talking to reporters at the Secretariat today, Wednesday.
The advisor to the environment said, “We are very happy with the report which has been given concerning the fire incident. The first thing is that this fire is absolutely terrifying-a big cause of worry on our part. But we are the people working here, and so if anything happens, the first thing is to fall upon our bodies. For the people there who work, this is a very traumatizing issue.
If it was an ‘accident, why are the evidences being sent abroad? In reply to the question, Syeda Rizwana Hasan said, “Some samples are being sent abroad to answer this question beyond doubt. One thing is after any incident we actually make so many views, opinions and decisions. Then if we hear anything different we don’t want to believe it anymore.
He said, ‘The experts who were there today showed us in close-up the way the fire started and how it spread from one location to another due to the construction of the secretariat buildings. The dog that was mentioned had previously been to that floor. He slept comfortably on a cushion on a chair.’
The high-powered investigation committee headed by the senior secretary in the home ministry in its preliminary investigation report said that the fire originated in building number 7 of the secretariat due to an electrical ‘loose connection’. The committee handed over the investigation report to the chief advisor Dr. Muhammad Yunus on Tuesday.
