Gopalganj clash investigation commission formed
The interim government has formed a six-member investigation commission headed by former judge Dr. Md. Abu Tariq in the clash surrounding the NCP march in Gopalganj. The Chief Advisor’s Press Wing confirmed this information in a press release on Thursday (July 24). The remaining members of the committee are Public Safety Division Additional Secretary Khandaker Md. Mahabubur Rahman, Law and Justice Division Additional Secretary (Senior and Sessions Judge) Md. Saiful Islam, Brigadier General Shahidur Rahman Osmani, Central Police Hospital Director (Additional Inspector General of Police) Sardar Nurul Amin, and Dhaka University’s Peace and Conflict Studies Department Chairman Dr. Sajjad Siddiqui. The press release said that the commission has been formed on the recommendation of the committee formed to investigate the Gopalganj clash. This commission will identify those involved in the clash and vandalism of government establishments and recommend action against them. The commission has been given three weeks to give clear opinions and recommendations. Regarding the NCP march on July 16, local Chhatra League and Awami League leaders and activists clashed with law enforcement throughout the day. Five people were killed in the clash. In addition, Section 144 was first imposed in the district and later a curfew was imposed following the clash.
