Goldsmith’s house robbed in Ghatail: 7 arrested
The district detective police have arrested 7 members of an inter-district robbery gang in connection with the robbery of a goldsmith’s house in Ghatail, Tangail. The police said that they were arrested from different parts of the country. The arrested robbers are Sohag Mandal, Mintu, Mosharraf, Jasim, Aminul, Anwar and Moynal. They were sent to the court on a five-day remand application for questioning this afternoon (August 27). In the afternoon, Superintendent of Police Md. Mizanur Rahman told a press conference at his office that a brutal robbery took place at the house of goldsmith Amal Banik in Chakpakutia, Ghatail in the early hours of August 18. 10-12 unidentified armed men threatened to kill Amal Banik’s mother Krishna Rani and looted cash, gold ornaments, silver ornaments, brass idols and mobile sets worth more than 6 lakh taka. At this time, when Amal tried to stop him, the robbers hit the plaintiff’s left wrist with a sharp knife, causing blood and injuries. At this time, the people of the area heard Amal’s screams and burst firecrackers, creating panic and fled. Later, when Amal Banik filed a complaint as the plaintiff, on the night of August 24, an active member of the robber gang, Md. Sohag Mondal, was arrested from Safipur in Kaliakoir and 1 of the looted mobile phones were recovered and seized. When the arrested accused was sent to court, he gave a confessional statement. Superintendent of Police Md. Mizanur Rahman further said that a simultaneous operation was conducted to arrest the other accused involved in the incident and recover the looted goods. Later, based on information received from the accused and the spy, Mintu, the mastermind of the robbery, was arrested from Kendua in Netrokona on Tuesday. According to Mintu’s testimony, other accused were arrested at different times from different places in Konabari police station area of Gazipur Metropolitan and looted items (gold and silver) were recovered. He said that the arrested accused are active members of an inter-district robbery gang and there are multiple cases against them, including robbery, in different police stations. He further said that they have been committing organized robberies for a long time.
