GM Quader and his wife banned from leaving the country
The court has banned Jatiya Party Chairman and former MP from Rangpur-3 constituency Golam Mohammad Quader (GM Quader) and his wife Sharifa Quader from leaving the country on charges of acquiring illegal assets including extortion, nomination trading and embezzlement of party funds. On Thursday (September 4) morning, following an application by the ACC, Acting Judge Ibrahim Mia of the Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge’s Court issued a ban on their leaving the country. The application states that an investigation is underway against Golam Mohammad Quader and others for acquiring known undeclared assets through corruption and abuse of power by illegal means. The accused Golam Mohammad Quader and his family members have immovable and movable assets in different parts of the country and outside the country, including assets acquired through corruption and illegal means. Confidential and reliable sources have said that the concerned person Golam Mohammad Quader and his wife are trying to transfer their immovable and movable assets to leave the country. Since there is a possibility that the investigation will be disrupted if they flee abroad, it is absolutely necessary to ban them from traveling abroad in the interest of a fair investigation of the allegations.
