Gias Uddin Taheri served show cause notice, BNP stirs in Habiganj-4
Islami Front candidate Md. Gias Uddin of Habiganj-4 (Chunarughat-Madhabpur) and BNP candidate SM Faisal of the same constituency have been issued show cause notices for violating the code of conduct in the 13th National Parliament election. They have been ordered to submit a written explanation by January 20.
Last Thursday (January 15), Judge Md. Rabiul Hasan of the Election Investigation and Sylhet Civil Judge Court issued the notice.
The notice given to Gias Uddin Taheri states that he campaigned as a candidate with the candle symbol on his verified Facebook page. According to the Code of Conduct for Political Parties and Candidates, 2025, no campaigning is allowed before three weeks of the scheduled day for voting in the parliamentary elections. For this reason, he has been issued a show cause notice.
The show cause notice issued to BNP candidate SM Faisal and his son Syed Ishtiaq Ahmed states that he held a public meeting with his workers and supporters at the house of Itakhola Saheb in Madhabpur upazila on January 6. A video came to the attention of the authorities. In the presence of the candidate, his son Syed Ishtiaq requested the candidate to win by voting for the paddy sheaf symbol. As per the rules, no campaigning is allowed three weeks before the scheduled date of the election. For this reason, he has been given a show cause notice.
