German, Spanish leaders announce humanitarian aid to Gaza

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz announced that Defense Minister Boris Pistorius will coordinate with France and the United Kingdom to send food and medical supplies to Gaza. He said that France and the United Kingdom are also ready to provide this airlift. “We know that this is a very small amount of help for the people of Gaza, but at least it is a contribution that we are happy to make,” Merz said. Spanish Foreign Minister José Manuel Álvarez Bueno also said that his country would parachute aid in the next few days in coordination with Jordan. “Some food items are parachuted, but it is just a drop in the ocean,” he said. Spain plans to parachute food aid for about 5,000 people in Gaza in the first and second weeks of August. He called for aid to be distributed by land through UN agencies, saying, “A steady flow of aid is needed, unhindered, without any obstacles.”
