Gaza’s Nasr Hospital unable to serve malnourished children due to suffocating crowds
Dr. Ahmed al-Farra, head of the pediatric department at Nasser Medical Complex in Khan Yunis, said the health crisis in southern Gaza has reached “a catastrophic level.” He warned that the number of malnourished children has increased so much that the hospital is no longer able to treat them. In a message posted on the hospital’s Facebook page, Dr. Ahmed al-Farra said, “Ten hospitals like Nasser Hospital are needed to deal with the current situation.” He said that at least 25 children are currently hospitalized in critical condition. The situation is so critical that many children are sleeping on the floor due to a lack of beds. Dr. Fararra added, “One in four children in Gaza is already malnourished. In southern Gaza alone, 60,000 to 75,000 children are at risk. This number is alarming and unprecedented. He noted, “The malnutrition clinic at Nasr Hospital is open only two days a week, and every time it receives more than 120 cases within a few hours — ten times more than before.” “The most tragic thing is that some children are dying outside the hospital gates before they even receive treatment — due to lack of milk and medical care.”
