Gaddafi’s son released after 10 years without trial for $900,000
Hannibal Gaddafi, the youngest son of Libyan dictator Muammar Gaddafi, has been released from prison after almost a decade. Lebanese authorities have released him on a $900,000 bond. He was detained without trial.
The BBC has confirmed this information in a report. However, even if released, Hannibal Gaddafi will remain under a travel ban for the time being. Meanwhile, human rights organizations have condemned the granting of bail without completing the trial. However, his lawyer Laurent Bayon said, “This is the end of a 10-year nightmare for him.” He added that his client will leave Lebanon for an unknown destination.
Earlier, Lebanese authorities ordered the arrest of Hannibal Gaddafi in 2015 on charges of concealing information about the disappearance of prominent Shiite leader Musa al-Sadr. He was later kidnapped from Syria and taken to Lebanon. Al-Sadr, the founder of the Lebanese Amal movement, disappeared in 1978 while meeting with Muammar Gaddafi in Libya.
