Fuel prices are not increasing, PM’s advisor Zahed Ur Rahman clarifies
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has made it clear that fuel prices are not increasing. Therefore, no one, including petrol pump owners, can profit by hoarding oil, said Zahed Ur Rahman, Advisor to the Prime Minister and Minister of State. He made this comment at a press conference organized by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting to mark the one-month anniversary of the government at the Secretariat today, Wednesday (March 25).
Dr. Zahed Ur Rahman said, “In a very short time, we have fallen into a global crisis, which is very unfortunate for us and our nation. Even rich countries are saying that Trump is withdrawing from the war because he has mid-term elections ahead. If there is massive inflation in his country before that, he will be affected. We are actually in that crisis.”
He then mentioned that it is now everyone’s responsibility to try to prevent people from panicking and hoarding oil. And yes, some people may be trying to hoard oil at the pump. Our government is thinking of looking into their issue.
The Prime Minister’s advisor also said, “We could have increased the price of oil domestically. But now we are buying oil at a much higher price. The new supply that will come will be much more expensive, but we have not gone that route yet, because our economy has been in crisis for a long time, the purchasing power of our people is not good, now if inflation increases a lot – if oil prices increase, then inflation will also increase – so we have not gone that route either. That is why we think that people need to be a little more aware.”
