From tomorrow visa services to be launched at Agartala Assistant High Commission

Visa and consular services at the Bangladesh Assistant High Commission in Agartala, Tripura, India, will resume from Wednesday after being closed for two months. This information was given in a notification published on the website of the Assistant High Commission.

Last December, supporters of Hindutva organization Hindu Sangharsh Samiti and several other organizations entered the premises of the Assistant High Commission in Agartala and attacked it. That day, they also insulted the national flag of Bangladesh.

Bangladesh then suspended all visa and consular services of the Assistant High Commission until further notice in the context of the insecurity situation.

The Ministry of External Affairs summoned the Indian High Commissioner in Dhaka, Pranay Verma, in protest of the attack. Later, the Tripura State Police suspended three police personnel in connection with the attack. In addition, a senior police officer was transferred. In addition, several people were arrested on charges of vandalism.

Consular and visa services at the Assistant High Commission in Agartala were then closed from December 3. And after the attack, the mission’s Assistant High Commissioner, Arif Mohammad, returned to Dhaka and joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He rejoined the Agartala mission on January 7.
