Former Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury granted bail in attempted murder case
A court has granted bail to former Speaker of the National Assembly Dr. Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury in an attempted murder case filed at Dhaka’s Lalbagh Police Station during the July Movement. Today, Sunday (April 12), the court of Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Zakir Hossain of Dhaka granted her bail on a surety of Tk 50,000 after a hearing.
Earlier, law enforcement officials arrested Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury from a relative’s house in the capital in the early hours of April 7. Later, she was produced in court and sent to jail.
On July 18 last year, during the anti-discrimination movement, Md. Ashraful alias Fahim was shot during a procession in the Azimpur Government Colony area. His left eye was seriously damaged and he lost his sight. Legal proceedings are underway against him in a case filed at Lalbagh Police Station in this incident.
