Former Public Administration Minister Farhad’s wife arrested

Law enforcement agencies have arrested Syeda Monalisa Islam, wife of former Public Administration Minister Farhad Hossain and vice-president of the Jubo League central committee. She was arrested from a house on Eskaton Road in Dhaka on Sunday night.

Sheikh Mejbah Uddin, officer-in-charge (OC) of Meherpur Sadar Police Station, confirmed the matter. He said that Syeda Monalisa has three cases against her on several charges, including an attack on students and anti-discrimination activists in Meherpur.

The administration and people of the area had known for a long time that Monalisa Islam had fled to Canada immediately after the government was overthrown in a student uprising. The former minister’s family had spread such false information about her escape to the society.

Meanwhile, locals have expressed joy and happiness on social media over the news of Syeda Monalisa Islam’s arrest.

Earlier, Farhad Hossain’s elder sister Shamim Ara Hira (50) and her husband Abdus Samad Bablu Biswas (55) were arrested from Bashundhara area in early December in a case filed against them for attacking students and the public during the anti-discrimination movement.

Earlier, former Public Administration Minister Farhad Hossain was arrested from the capital’s Eskaton area on the night of September 14 last year. A case was filed against him for shooting and killing students and the public during the anti-discrimination student movement on August 5.
