    Former MP and Awami League leader Majid Khan arrested

    Former Member of Parliament (MP) and Awami League leader of Habiganj-2 constituency (Baniachong-Azmiriganj) Advocate Majid Khan has been arrested. Police arrested him from Dhaka on Monday night.

    According to police sources, Majid Khan is the second accused in the shooting incident that killed nine people during the student-public movement in Baniachong on August 5. In addition, his name is number three in the Ripon Shil murder case in Habiganj district headquarters during the same movement.

    Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Additional Commissioner Rezaul Karim Mallick confirmed the arrest of former MP Majid Khan.

    Meanwhile, Baniachong Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Golam Mostafa said that the Baniachong police have left for Dhaka to bring Majid Khan.

    Majid Khan was elected MP from that constituency in 2009, 2014 and 2018. In 2024, he lost to the Awami League candidate as an independent candidate. He is the former general secretary of the district Awami League. He is also the plaintiff in the murder case of former finance minister Shah AMS Kibria.
