Former mayor Atiqul, 10 others appear before tribunal
Former mayor Atiqul Islam, local Awami League leaders and police members, along with 10 others, have been produced before the International Crimes Tribunal in the July-August massacre case in the capital’s Uttara.
The accused were produced before the tribunal from Kashimpur and Keraniganj jails after 10 am today, Sunday.
Among the Awami leaders are Education Secretary Shahinur Mia, Uora West Thana Awami League President Advocate Monowar Islam Chowdhury and many others.
The other accused produced are Gazipur Metropolitan Awami League Organizing Secretary Abdullah Al Mamun Mondal, Uttara Sector 6 Awami League President Bashir Uddin, Metropolitan North Ward 1 Jubo League President Delwar Hossain Rubel, OC Mashikur Rahman, Constable Hossain Ali, AC Jabed Iqbal and Omar Ali.
Earlier, the tribunal had ordered the arrest and imprisonment of 10 people, including former mayor Atiqul Islam, in the case. The investigation report against them is scheduled to be submitted today.
The prosecution said that there are six cases against Atiqul in different police stations. Witnesses have named these accused in their statements in the July-August massacre. At that time, 200 people were killed in Uttara. The prosecution told the court that Atiqul cannot avoid responsibility for this.
