Former Member of Parliament (MP) of Jhenaidah, Major General (retd.) Salahuddin Miyaji, has been arrested by the joint forces. He was arrested from Rudrapur village in Jessore Sadar around 10:45 pm on Tuesday.

Earlier, local students and the public blocked former MP Salahuddin Miyaji and his brother-in-law Zakir Hossain from staying at a park in Jessore.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Jessore Kotwali Police Station Kazi Babul Hossain confirmed the matter. At around 12:30 am, he said that upon receiving information about the blockade, members of the joint forces took the former MP and his brother-in-law into custody. Later, Salahuddin Miyaji was arrested in a case of vandalism of the BNP’s Jhenaidah office and handed over to the Jhenaidah Police Station.

Talking to the police and local residents, it was learned that Salahuddin Miyaji and his brother-in-law Zakir Hossain have been staying at Shyamalchhaya Park, which they own, for a long time. On Tuesday evening, the leaders and activists of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement and the National Citizens Committee took up positions at the park gate. On receiving the information, members of the joint force went there around 10:45 pm and took Salahuddin Miyaji and his brother-in-law Zakir Hossain into custody. Later, they were handed over to the Jhenaidah police around 12:30 am.

It is worth noting that retired army officer Salahuddin Miyaji was elected as a member of parliament from Jhenaidah-3 (Moheshpur-Kotchandpur) constituency as an Awami League nominated candidate in the 12th parliamentary election.
