Former IGP-NTMC Director General including 10 others appear in tribunal
Ten officials, including the former police chief and former director general of NTMC, have been produced before the International Crimes Tribunal on charges of genocide and crimes against humanity in the July-August massacre to eliminate the anti-discrimination student-public movement.
They were produced before the tribunal in two separate prison vans from Kashimpur Central Jail and Keraniganj Central Jail at 10 am today, Thursday.
Those who have been produced are – former IGP Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun, former director general of National Telecommunication Monitoring Center-NTMC Major General (retd.) Ziaul Ahsan, former deputy commissioner (DC) of DMP Mirpur division Jasim Uddin Mollah, dismissed additional superintendent of police of Dhaka district Abdullahil Kafi, former additional superintendent (Savar Circle) of Dhaka district police Md. Shahidul Islam, former officer-in-charge (OC) of Jatrabari police station Abul Hasan, former OC of Gulshan police station Md. Mazharul Haque, former inspector of the Intelligence Department (DB-North) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police Md. Arafat Hossain.
Apart from this, two former RAB officers were also produced. They are former Superintendent of Police (SP) Mohiuddin Farooqui and Additional Superintendent of Police of Barisal Range Alep Uddin.
Earlier on October 27, a three-member judicial panel led by the chairman of the tribunal, Justice Md. Golam Mortuza Majumder, granted the prosecution’s application and ordered them to be produced.
Arrest warrants were issued against 17 former police officers in a case of crimes against humanity and they were ordered to appear before the International Crimes Tribunal today. Among them, those who are under arrest were brought to the tribunal.
Around 125 complaints were filed at the prosecution office on charges of genocide and crimes against humanity committed across the country from July 1 to August 5 last year to eliminate the anti-discrimination student-public movement. In addition, complaints are also being submitted to the investigative agency of the International Criminal Tribunal.
