Former BSEC chairman Shibli Rubaiyat arrested
Police have arrested former chairman of the Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC) Shibli Rubaiyat-ul-Islam. He was arrested from Dhanmondi around 10:30 pm on Tuesday.
Police said there is no end to the allegations against Shibli Rubaiyat. He is one of the destroyers of the country’s financial sector. He is involved in money laundering abroad. There is a case against him in the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
Professor Shibli Rubaiyat of the Banking and Insurance Department of Dhaka University was first appointed as the chairman of BSEC on May 17, 2020. After serving for four years, he was reappointed and took over as the chairman of BSEC again on May 16 last year.
Professor Shibli Rubaiyat resigned from the post of BSEC chairman on August 10 last year after the Awami League government fell in a student-public uprising. After that, he returned to his department at Dhaka University.
