Foreign passenger arrested with 8.5 kg of cocaine at Shahjalal
A Guyanese passenger has been arrested with 8.5 kg of cocaine at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka. The passenger was arrested late on Monday (August 25). Her name is MS Karen Petula Staffel. The Directorate of Customs Intelligence and Investigation said that the value of the seized cocaine is around Tk 130 crore. A press release sent on Tuesday said that the director general of the department received confidential information in this regard. It is said that a Qatar Airways flight from Doha is coming to Dhaka. A passenger on this flight may be involved in drug smuggling. Based on this information, customs intelligence officers took a cautious position at Shahjalal Airport. The flight landed at the airport at around 2.30 am. The customs intelligence officers immediately confirmed the identity of the passenger. The press release said that detectives scanned the baggage of passenger Petula Staffel. They found 22 oval-shaped pieces of cocaine wrapped in foil paper in the baggage. The process of handing over Petula Staffel along with the cocaine to the airport police station is underway. A case is under process at the airport police station against him.
