Five killed in separate accidents on Dhaka-Chittagong highway
Five people were killed in separate road accidents on the Dhaka-Chittagong highway at Chandina, Nimsar and Daudkandi in Comilla. At least six people were injured in these incidents. According to the Highway Police and local sources, the accidents occurred in the early hours of Wednesday (April 1). Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Mainamati Highway Police Station Md. Abdul Momin said that Zahirul Islam of Noakhali and Sohel Rana of Meherpur district were killed in the Nimsar Bazar area of the Dhaka-Chittagong highway in the morning.
He also said that two drivers of two vehicles were killed on the spot when a truck hit the back of a Dhaka-bound covered van in the Nimsar Bazar area of the Dhaka-Chittagong highway at around 4:30 am. The truck’s helper was injured in the incident. The bodies of the deceased were recovered with the help of the fire service. On the other hand, two auto-rickshaw drivers were killed in a road accident on their way home from a fair in the early hours of the morning in Kanara area of Daudkandi upazila.
The deceased were Barek (42), son of the late Latu Mia of Sarkarpur village, and Mostafa (40), son of Md. Nur Islam. Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Daudkandi Highway Police Station Md. Iqbal Bahar Majumdar said that the accident occurred when an unknown vehicle hit them on the highway. Two died on the spot. They were auto-rickshaw drivers.
They were returning from the Soleman Langtar fair in Chandpur Matlab. The injured in the accident are undergoing treatment and the bodies of the deceased have been handed over to their relatives. The injured are Md. Nabir Hossain (38), Md. Kausar (40), Ismail (37) and Md. Sagar Mia (35). They have been admitted to different hospitals. The condition of one of the injured has been sent to Dhaka as he is in critical condition.
Meanwhile, a class 9 student was killed in another road accident in the Boro Gobindapur area of Chandina upazila of Comilla. The deceased, Taim (15), was a student of Chandina Boro Gobindapur High School. He was on his way home from private tuition when he was crushed under a lorry while crossing the road in the Katherpool area of Chandina. The accident occurred around 9:30 am on Wednesday.
