First-time JOCSU elections
Voting is underway for the first time in the Jagannath University Central Students’ Union (JOCSU) elections. Voting began at 9 am today (January 6). Around 8:30 am, law enforcement agencies were deployed in the university campus area. Students were entering the campus in lines. A festive atmosphere prevailed on the campus due to the presence of students.
According to the Election Commission, the total number of voters in this year’s JOCSU and Hall Sangsad elections is 16,445. Out of these, 8,479 are female voters and 8,170 are male voters. There are a total of 190 candidates for the Central Sangsad and Hall Sangsad.
According to the commission sources, a total of 39 centers have been set up for voting. 178 booths have been set up in these centers. Out of these, 38 centers have been set up for the Central Sangsad and a separate center has been set up for the Hall Sangsad. The presiding officer and polling officer along with the responsible officials are ready at their respective centers to conduct the elections in a fair and peaceful manner. In addition, law enforcement and volunteer teams have been deployed along with the university administration to ensure overall security.
Vice-Chancellor of the university, Professor Dr. Md. Rezaul Karim said that the university administration has made all preparations to conduct the long-awaited JOCSU elections in a free, fair and impartial manner. This is very important for the democratic environment and leadership development of the university. I hope that the voters will exercise their voting rights in an orderly manner in a festive atmosphere.
Proctor, Professor Dr. Muhammad Tajammul Haque said that overall security preparations have been made. I hope that this will continue until the elections are completed. Meanwhile, a festive atmosphere is being observed among the candidates and supporters surrounding the elections. Various panels and independent candidates are present at the polling stations and urging the students to exercise their voting rights. The candidates are seeking votes and prayers from the students and voters for the last time.
