First rice in everyone’s stomach, then other thoughts: Tarique Rahman
BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman has said that the people of the country will be able to eat rice to their full stomachs. If BNP comes to power, it will do whatever is necessary to achieve that. First rice in everyone’s stomach, then other thoughts. He said that steps must be taken to improve the living standards of farmers. Although subsidies are given to increase agricultural production, fertilizers and pesticides will be provided at affordable prices and irrigation arrangements will be made. If BNP comes to power, a canal digging program will be implemented in Comilla. At that time, the needs of the people of Comilla will be met again.
Tarique Rahman said these things at an election rally organized at Fultoli ground in Comilla Sadar Dakshin Upazila on Sunday (January 25) evening. He said, if we want to save the farmers, workers and hardworking people of this country, then we have to bring about change through voting. To that end, we have to stand in line and vote on the morning of February 12 and return home in the evening, ensuring the victory of the sheaves of rice.
Tarique Rahman said that BNP has a clear plan to build the future of Bangladesh. People will not be satisfied by criticizing other political parties alone. There will be criticism, but it is not an alternative to work.
He said, our goal is to change the fate of the people. If the people are 10 percent better now, so that we can make it 20 percent. We will gradually move forward to 100 percent. But even if we get at least 20 percent, we can go a long way.
The BNP Chairman said, if we come to power, we will provide employment through language education. We will introduce micro-loans for women on easy terms. We will create additional income opportunities through computer training. In addition, allowances will be provided for imams and muezzins.
Tarique Rahman said, BNP has successfully run the country in the past. We are the ones who introduced unpaid education up to higher secondary level for women and waived interest on agricultural loans up to Tk 10,000 for farmers. From our long experience of running the state, we know how to curb corruption, create employment for the youth and make the lives of the people safe.
Before the BNP Chairman gave his speech, a demand was raised in the public meeting to declare Comilla a separate division. However, Tarique Rahman did not give any reassuring speech on this issue. The public meeting was presided over by Comilla South District BNP President and Comilla-8 (Barura) constituency candidate Zakaria Taher Suman.
Present at the time were BNP Chairman’s Advisor Haji Amin Ur Rashid Yasin, Monirul Haque Chowdhury, former Education Minister Ehsanul Haque Milon, Dr. Redwan Ahmed, Jasim Uddin, former MP Mujibur Rahman Moju, former Mayor of Comilla City Corporation Monirul Haque Sakku, Principal Selim Mia, Mostafizur Rahman, Ashraful Alam Bhumi, etc. Amir, Nazrul Haque Bhuiyan Swapan, Udbatul Bari Abu, Yusuf Molla Tipu and BNP leaders and activists from various levels of Comilla and Chandpur districts.
