Fire in Sirajdikhan Bazar, 8 shops burnt to ashes
At least 7 to 8 shops were partially or completely burnt down in a fire in Sirajdikhan Upazila of Munshiganj at midnight. It is initially estimated that about 80 lakh taka was lost. The fire broke out in the Kathpatti area of Sirajdikhan Bazar at around 12:30 am on Saturday (December 27).
According to local sources, the fire first started in Kamal’s grocery shop. Within a short time, the fire spread to several nearby shops. The fire destroyed goods worth about 40 lakh taka from Shahabuddin’s hardware shop, about 15 lakh taka from Delwar’s wood shop, about 15 lakh taka from Kamal’s decorator shop, about 10 thousand taka from Abul Kalam’s tea shop and about 20 thousand taka from Kamal’s grocery shop. Several other shops were also partially damaged.
Upon receiving the information, a patrol team from Sirajdikhan Police Station, multiple units from Sirajdikhan and Tongibari Fire Services and local people reached the spot and managed to bring the fire under control after a joint effort of about two hours.
Deputy Assistant Director of Munshiganj Fire Service and Civil Defense Muhammad Shafiqul Islam said that the fire was reported at 12:42 am. Upon receiving the information, four units from Sirajdikhan and Tongibari Fire Stations worked to put out the fire. Tin, wood, decorative items and hardware items in seven tin shed shops were damaged in the fire. However, no one was injured in the incident.
He said that initially it is believed that the fire started due to an electrical fault. Due to the quick action of the fire service, many nearby shops were saved from major damage. The extent of the damage and the exact cause of the fire can be confirmed after the investigation.
