Fire in Awami League Upazila Office

A fire broke out in the Sreepur Upazila Awami League in Gazipur. The incident occurred at around 5:15 pm on Tuesday (February 24). Local residents saw the fire and were able to quickly put it out. It was not immediately known how the fire started. Videos and pictures of the fire went viral on Facebook.
Eyewitnesses said that at around 5:15 pm, they suddenly saw black smoke on the second floor of the Sreepur Upazila Awami League office. At that time, the fire started on the second floor of the building. The manager of the neighboring Singer showroom quickly went and was able to put out the fire using their fire extinguisher. When they went to the room where the fire broke out, it was seen that the garbage and cockpit sheet inside were burnt. No one could clearly say who started the fire.
Singer showroom manager Md. Mizanur Rahman said that yesterday at around 5:15 pm, they suddenly saw black smoke on the roof of their godown. Thinking that the godown was on fire, they quickly went to the scene. When he reached there, he found a fire burning on the second floor of the Upazila Awami League office. He was able to put out the fire immediately using their own fire extinguishers. He could not say how the fire started.
Sreepur Fire Service Station Officer Md. Khairul Islam said he had not received any reports of a fire at the Awami League party office. He would look into the matter. Sreepur Police Station Inspector (Operations) Sanjay Saha said, “We have inspected the scene. Garbage and cardboard were scattered in the room on the second floor of the Awami League office. Someone might have started the fire while smoking. The cardboard in that room was burnt.”
