Fire breaks out in a jute warehouse in Sripur at midnight
A fire broke out in a jute warehouse in Sripur, Gazipur. Goods worth about crores of taka in the warehouse were burnt. The incident took place at Sarwar Hossain’s jute warehouse in Bakultala area of Sripur-Maona regional road at around 12 am on Tuesday (November 18). Upon receiving the information, six units of the fire service reached the spot and brought the fire under control. However, the fire could not be extinguished till the time of writing this report at 10:30 am today, Wednesday (November 19).
Eyewitnesses said that the warehouse caught fire at around 12 am. Locals first tried to bring the fire under control. Upon receiving the information, the Sripur Fire Service first worked to control the fire. But when the fire got out of control, six units including the Rajendrapur Modern Fire Service started working to control the fire at the spot. They said that all the jute products in the warehouse were burnt in the fire. Three cows were burnt to death during this time.
Confirming the matter, warehouse inspector of Sripur Fire Station Md. Nurul Karim told us that as soon as the news was received, the fire service reached the spot and started working to control the fire. But when the intensity of the fire increased, six more units joined the fire control. Firefighting work is still ongoing. However, it was not possible to immediately determine the cause of the fire and the extent of the damage. The fire service official also said that the matter will be known later.
