Fire breaks out at late BNP leader’s house in Mehendiganj after looting
Mischievous persons looted and set on fire the house of late BNP leader ATM Matiur Rahman in Mehendiganj upazila of Barisal. The incident took place in Bidyanandpur village of the upazila early on Saturday (August 16). According to local sources, after the death of former chairman of Bidyanandpur union and former president of union BNP ATM Matiur Rahman, his children lived in Barisal city and abroad. The house in the village was locked for a long time. On Saturday morning, miscreants vandalized the house and looted the furniture. Later, they set fire to it and the house was completely destroyed. Local resident Mosharraf Hossain said, “Matiur’s children used to come to the village once or twice a year. However, the house was always locked. The miscreants set the house on fire after vandalizing it.’ ATM Matiur’s son Harun-or Rashid complained, “There is a dispute with some people in the village over their land. This attack and arson was carried out as a result of that dispute.” In this regard, Kazirhat Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Mizanur Rahman said, “The scene has been inspected. Legal action will be taken if the affected family files a written complaint.”
