Fire at Matarbari Thermal Power Plant, under control after 3 hours

A fire broke out in the scrap yard (warehouse) of the Matarbari coal-based thermal power plant in Maheshkhali, Cox’s Bazar. The fire started at around 9 pm yesterday (January 12). The fire was brought under control at 11:15 pm after about 3 hours with the efforts of four units of the fire service.
Ram Prasad Sen, Officer (In-Charge) of the Maheshkhali Fire Service and Civil Defense Station, confirmed this information to the media. He said that the fire has been brought under control in the crab storage of the thermal power plant. Details will be announced later. The 1,200 MW Matarbari Thermal Power Plant is located at least half a kilometer away from the scrap yard.
Locals said that they suddenly saw fire burning inside from the bridge adjacent to the power plant. The scrap yard has been set up in an open area of ​​​​Matarbari Township. Various materials used in the thermal power plant, including wood, tin and iron rods, are stored there. The extent of the damage in the fire is not known.
