We may have to take on the field again for democracy: Gayeshwar
BNP standing committee member Gayeshwar Chandra Roy said, “The movement is not over; the government has just changed. We may have to take to the field again for democracy, we have to prepare for this. Because, domestic circles are now conspiring more than foreign circles.”
He said these things as the chief guest at a discussion held at the Diploma Institution in Kakrail in the capital on Wednesday to mark the 44th founding anniversary of the Nationalist Farmers’ Party.
Gayeshwar commented that the 16-year movement of the BNP and like-minded political parties to establish democracy and voting rights has been hijacked. He said, “The interim government does not acknowledge our movement. They only talk about 5-6 people, only about the July movement. So where are the rest?” However, Gayeshwar mentioned that if this government fails, the BNP will suffer the most.
He said, ‘Not everyone can enjoy the fruits of the movement, only a few do.’ He also alleged that some in the interim government are trying to give more importance to another party than the BNP. Gayeshwar said, ‘The process of depoliticization is still ongoing, this government lacks experience.’
To the interim government, Gayeshwar Chandra Roy said, ‘I thought Sheikh Hasina was given an exit after the August 5 uprising. But how did the police officers escape? They had a lot of illegal money. As far as I know, this money was not deposited in the Bangladesh Bank.’ Gayeshwar questioned who helped Awami League ministers, MPs and leaders flee the country.
To India, Gayeshwar Chandra Roy said, ‘Several lakhs of Indian citizens are doing jobs and doing business in Bangladesh legally and illegally. Bangladesh will take action against the illegals. I will tell India, you have stopped issuing visas to Bangladeshi citizens, continue this. In all, after a few days, you will realize how much rice and how much rice your economy is going to stand.’
At this time, Gayeshwar urged the government to take necessary measures to send illegal Indian residents back to their own country.
Referring to the recent developments with India, he said, ‘India will not be able to beat us in water and rice; they will die on their own. If we do not go to India, the country will save hundreds of crores of taka. Therefore, India is welcome to stop visas.’
BNP Vice Chairman Advocate Nitai Roy Chowdhury, Joint Secretary General Habib Un Nabi Khan Sohel and other central and metropolitan leaders of the Krishak Dal also spoke at the Engineer Institution in the capital under the chairmanship of Krishak Dal President Krishak Dal President Hasan Zarif Tuhin and under the direction of General Secretary Shahidul Islam Babul. Earlier in the morning, a large number of Krishak Dal leaders and activists paid floral tributes to the grave of BNP founder Martyr President Ziaur Rahman and prayed for the forgiveness of his soul.
