Father hands son over to police after posting on Facebook demanding Chinmoy’s release.
Father Bimal Das handed his son Abhi Das over to the police station after the spokesperson of Sammilit Sanatani Jagran Jote posted on Facebook demanding Chinmoy’s release. The incident took place in Jamalganj, Sunamganj on Wednesday.
On Tuesday night, Abhi Das posted a post from his personal Facebook ID saying, “I want Chinmoy Prabhu released within the next 24 hours.” The teenager also wrote, “If he is not released, then don’t forget, our Sanatanis were the first to create war in the world. We are always ready to fight with you. Because we are Ram Sena, Ram, Ram.”
According to local sources, Abhi Das (17) posted on Facebook demanding Chinmoy Krishna Das’s release in Jamalganj upazila of Sunamganj. He also warned of war in his post. When this incident became known, anger arose among local scholars and ulama. That night, a group of scholars held a protest march in Sachna Bazar demanding justice for Abhi and his arrest. In the afternoon, the upazila’s scholars and leaders of the Puja Udjavan Parishad told Abhi’s father Bimal Das in the presence of people from different sections of the Hindu community that his son had made a mistake and requested that the boy be forgiven. Later, when everyone went to the police station together, Abhi Das also appeared and told everyone, ‘It was my mistake.’ Later, Abhi Das was released on bail.
In this regard, Jamalganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Sh. M. Kamal Hossain said, ‘When I was informed that the issue had been resolved by the upazila’s scholars and leaders of the Hindu community, Abhi Das was handed over to his family on bail.’
