Farmer killed for protesting against kicking a dog

A farmer named Zulus Mia has been allegedly killed in Comilla’s Debidwar for protesting against kicking a dog. The incident took place on Wednesday (April 1) evening in Purba Narayanpur village of Subil Union of the upazila. The deceased Zulus Mia (55) is the son of deceased Syed Ali of the village. There is widespread tension in the area over the incident.
Police and locals said that farmer Zulus Mia protested when Kamal Hossain (35), son of Siddique of the village, kicked a dog yesterday evening. At first, there was an argument between the two. Later, it turned into a fight. At one point, Kamal kicked Zulus Mia in the testicles and he fell to the ground on the spot. The locals rescued him and took him to the hospital, where the doctor declared him dead.
Zulus Mia’s grandson Md. Akash said, “I was sitting on a loft next to the house.” Suddenly, I heard a scream and saw my grandfather lying on the ground, while the others were running away. At that time, a man named Anwar approached me with a knife. Later, the locals sent my grandfather to the hospital. I learned from the hospital that he had died.
Zulus Mia’s nephew Md. Roman said, “My uncle has 5 sons and 2 daughters. He used to run his family by farming. Now I don’t understand what will happen to this poor family.” Zulus Mia’s eldest son Ibrahim said while crying, “I want exemplary justice for those who killed my father like this.”
Debidwar Police Station OC Md. Moniruzzaman said, “On receiving the news, the body of the deceased has been recovered. The body has been sent to Comilla Medical College Hospital for autopsy. A drive is underway to arrest those involved in this incident.”
