Farmer dies in wild elephant attack
A farmer named Keching Mong Marma (59) died in a wild elephant attack in Lama Upazila of Bandarban. The incident took place at 11 am on Tuesday (February 24) in the Trishdeba Dolujhiri area of Ward No. 3 of Phansiakhali Union of the upazila.
The deceased Keching Mong Marma is a resident of Baching Karbari Para. His father’s name is Baching Karbari and his mother’s name is Hlaching Marma. According to local sources, Keching Mong Marma was applying pesticides in his paddy field. At that time, a group of wild elephants suddenly attacked him and he was crushed by the elephant’s feet and died on the spot.
The relatives of the deceased recovered the body and brought it to Lama Upazila Health Complex at 8 pm. The doctor on duty at the hospital’s emergency department declared him dead after examination. The body is currently kept in the hospital morgue. Confirming the incident, Lama Police Station OC Muhammad Shahjahan Kamal said, “The body was recovered from the scene after receiving information about the death of a person in an elephant attack. The matter is very sad.”
