What Farida Akhter said about Hilsa export to India
Fisheries and Livestock Advisor Farida Akhter said, “The Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock has nothing to do with the export of hilsa to India. I still stand by my previous decision that the people of the country should be fed hilsa first, then export.
Farida Akhter said, ‘Hilsha has not gone to India yet, it has only been decided. This has nothing to do with the increase in the price of hilsa in the market.
Farida Akhter said these things while talking to reporters at the secretariat today.
Farida Akhter said, “Hilsa has been produced in the country more than 5 lakh metric tons. The decision to export is 3 thousand tons. It is not yet possible to say how much will go.
She said, “The permission to export hilsa is the decision of the Ministry of Commerce and not of the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock.” Businessmen of Kolkata have contacted the Ministry of Commerce. They gave in response to a request. There was a special request on the occasion of Durga Puja in India. They did accordingly. I cannot force them.
Farida Akhter said, if the price of hilsa increases after the decision to export, the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock will take action.
Farida Akhter said, ‘Hilsa fishing in the river will be closed for 22 days from October 13 to November 3. This decision has been taken to lay eggs during the breeding season of Hilsa. During this time, the assistance to the fishermen will be increased in place of 25 kg of rice.
It is to be noted that the Ministry of Commerce approved the export of 3 thousand tons of hilsa fish to India on the occasion of upcoming Durga Puja on Saturday.
