Families of 5 killed in train accident to receive Tk 25,000
The bodies of five people, including a mother and son, who died in a train accident in Tangail’s Kalihati, have been handed over to their families. The railway authorities completed the legal process and handed over the bodies to the families of the deceased at around 4 am on Friday (March 27). At that time, the railway authorities paid Tk 25,000 to each family as compensation. Earlier, the accident occurred in the Dhlatengar area of the upazila around 8 pm yesterday.
The deceased are – Hamidul Islam’s wife Nargis (35), his son Nirob (12), Nargis’s eldest son’s mother-in-law Dola (35), Sultan (33) son of Raizel Mia of the same area and Rifa Akhter (23) daughter of Abdur Rashid. They were returning to their workplaces in Dhaka from Gaibandha after the Eid holidays.
Abdul Momin, the elder brother of the deceased Rifa Akhter, said, “The bodies were handed over to us at around 4 am after the legal process. All the deceased belong to my family and relatives. The railway authorities have given Tk 25,000 to the families of each deceased. They will be buried after Zuhr.”
Tangail Railway Station Police Outpost Sub-Inspector (SI) Mizanur Rahman said, “The Gazipur passenger bus that left Gaibandha ran out of fuel when it reached Dhlatengar area of Kalihati upazila. Then some passengers got off the bus and sat on the railway tracks next to the Tangail-Jamuna Bridge Highway. At that time, the Sirajganj Express train that left Tangail suddenly arrived. Five people, including a child, died on the spot after being hit by the train.”
He said, after the legal process was completed, the bodies were handed over to their families. Tk 25,000 has been given to each family of the deceased. An accidental death case has been filed in this incident.
