    Explosion due to gas leakage in the early hours of the morning, 6 of a family burnt

    Six members of a family were burnt in a gas leak explosion in Chandpur. The incident took place on the fourth floor of Zakir’s building in Koralia area early Sunday morning.

    The burnt victims are Abdur Rahman (65), his wife Shahnaz Begum (60), son Hossain Sardar (35), daughter-in-law Khadija Begum (25), Mahim Sardar (14) and Niba Akhter.

    Eyewitnesses said that as soon as they lit the gas stove to heat food for Sahri, the six-storey building shook with a loud noise. At that time, the fire spread to three other rooms in addition to the kitchen. After the incident, the six burnt people were quickly rescued and taken to a local hospital. Four of them were sent to the National Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute in Dhaka as their condition was critical.

    Chandpur General Hospital doctor Mahmudul Hasan confirmed the matter. He said that Hossain Sardar and Niba Akhter are being treated at Chandpur General Hospital. The remaining four are in critical condition and have been sent to the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery in Dhaka.

    According to DMCH Hospital sources, Khadija has suffered 85 percent burns on her body. Apart from this, Shahnaz Begum has been admitted to the hospital with 20 percent burns, Abdur Rahman 18 percent burns and Mahim 15 percent burns.
