EU team to deploy to Bangladesh from January 17
The European Union (EU) will deploy 56 election observers across the country from January 17. The observers will observe the election process in their assigned areas and report back to the core team. On Tuesday (January 13) afternoon, members of the European Union Election Observation Mission to Bangladesh paid a courtesy call on Professor Ali Riaz, Special Assistant to the Principal Advisor.
The meeting was attended by Marcel Negi, Political Analyst of the EU Election Observation Mission, and Vasyl Vaschenko, Election Analyst. The EU representatives briefed the meeting on the structure and operational procedures of their mission. They said that 56 long-term observers will be deployed across the country from January 17. In addition, 90 short-term observers will join the mission to observe the polling, vote counting and results process before the elections.
The EU representatives also said that the mission will present a fact-based, comprehensive and impartial assessment of the entire election process, following the established observation procedures of the European Union. They will publish their initial report and hold a press conference on February 14 after the elections. Professor Ali Riaz said that the EU observation mission will be provided with full cooperation from the government.
