Elections will be held, no doubt: Former Attorney General

Former Attorney General Md. Asaduzzaman has commented that there is no doubt that elections will be held after BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman returns to the country. He made these comments in response to questions from local media personnel after submitting his nomination papers as a BNP candidate for the Jhenaidah-1 (Shailkupa) constituency at the Shailkupa Upazila Assistant Returning Officer’s office yesterday, Sunday (December 28) afternoon. He said, ‘There is no doubt that elections will be held after December 25. For those who want to take Bangladesh forward, who want to protect independence, sovereignty and democracy, the upcoming elections are very valuable and there is no alternative to this election.’
Asaduzzaman said, ‘If I am elected, my first commitment is to ensure good governance in Bangladesh. To ensure an environment related to good governance. I will work to ensure education, women’s rights, a corruption-free society and human rights and justice. Above all, my commitment is to ensure the rule of law, to ensure an environment where the people of Bangladesh can vote as they choose throughout their lives.’
The recently-former Attorney General further said, ‘You have already seen that I have fought to restore an environment where the people of Bangladesh can ensure their voting rights by reviewing the verdict on the Thirteenth Amendment to the Constitution and I have won that struggle. Now, elections will be held every 5 years under a caretaker government. We have legally ensured that environment.’ He said, ‘On behalf of the BNP, we have consistently fought against corruption, for good governance and justice, for the rule of law, for democracy and human rights and for the sovereignty of freedom and will continue to do so.’
Earlier, BNP’s nominated candidate Md. Asaduzzaman submitted his nomination to Assistant Returning Officer and Shailkupa Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Mahfuzur Rahman. Present at the event were BNP’s nominated candidate for Jhenaidah-4 constituency, former General Secretary of the People’s Rights Council Rashed Khan, BNP’s nominated candidate for Jhenaidah-2 constituency, District BNP President MA Majid, General Secretary Zahiduzzaman Mona, Shailkupa Upazila BNP Advisor Abdul Bari Mollah, Municipal BNP President Abu Taleb Mia, among others.
