Elections may not happen, but July charter must be implemented before: Jamaat leader Taher
Jamaat Naye-e-Ameer Dr. Syed Abdullah Mohammad Taher has said that the referendum also involves the issue of PR in the upper house, so it must be resolved through a referendum before the elections. The national elections may not happen for any reason. However, the July charter is an important document, it must be implemented before.
He told reporters after a meeting with a delegation led by Linford Andrews, advisor to the Commonwealth’s ‘Electoral Support’ branch and head of ‘Pre-Election Assessment’, at the Jamaat central office today (October 29).
Syed Abdullah Mohammad Taher said that the July charter is so important that it needs to be implemented through a referendum, even if it costs some funds. If the referendum is not held in November, all the upcoming elections may come under pressure.
The party leader said that the meeting will also discuss the implementation of the July charter, the voting environment in the next national elections, the government’s position and the role of Jamaat. Syed Abdullah Mohammad Taher said that the delegation has been informed that Jamaat has all kinds of preparations for fair elections.
