Elderly man gets life sentence for raping child in Netrakona
The Netrokona Women and Child Abuse Prevention Tribunal has sentenced a man named Rahmat Ali to life in prison for raping a seven-year-old girl in Mohanganj, Netrokona. At the same time, he has been sentenced to another 2 years in prison for failing to pay a fine of Tk 50,000. District and Sessions Judge Dr. AKM Emdadul Haque gave this verdict in a crowded courtroom on Wednesday (August 20) afternoon in the presence of the accused. The court gave this verdict after recording the testimonies of 8 witnesses and proving the crime beyond doubt. A brief description of the case reveals that on the morning of May 3, 2012, a first-grade girl was picked up from the grounds of a private primary school in Mohanganj and raped in the classroom. When the child fell ill after returning home, she was taken to the hospital. Later, the child’s mother filed a case with Mohanganj Police Station the next day, accusing Rahmat Ali of the school area, son of the deceased Yad Ali of Maizhati village. The police completed the investigation and submitted the final charge sheet to the court on April 10 of the following year, and after a long hearing, the court gave this verdict.
