Education Minister announces steps to stop cheating in exams
Regarding cheating in exams, Education and Primary and Mass Education Minister ANM Ehsanul Haque Milon said that although conventional cheating has decreased, now there is a trend of digital cheating. Initiatives are being taken to formulate a new law to deal with this problem.
He said this as the chief guest at the inauguration of a national workshop on the inclusion of technical courses in the National University curriculum at the conference room of the International Mother Language Institute in the capital today (April 9).
The minister said that the government wants to bring fundamental reforms in the education system. For this, emphasis is being placed on strengthening technical and life-based education along with general education. He called on the National University, as the largest educational institution in the country, to regularly monitor and play an effective role in colleges.
Ehsanul Haque Milon said that students are wasting their valuable time due to the long process of board exams, which is harmful for the future generation. The minister said that currently, extra time is spent on various tasks including formulating questions, evaluating books and publishing results. Although officials get various benefits for these jobs, it wastes up to two years of students’ time. Eight bonuses can be taken after 12 months of service, but students’ time will be wasted – this cannot be.
He said that it is important to keep talented teachers engaged in classroom teaching instead of administrative work. The minister alleged that he has received information that some inspectors of the National University are gradually getting involved in irregularities. Strict monitoring will be done in this regard.
Regarding the training of officials of the Ministry of Education abroad, he said that many who return to the country after training abroad are not interested in the practical application of their training. To stop this trend, he has ordered that officials coming to the ministry will have to serve for a minimum of three years.
Expressing concern about English medium educational institutions, the minister said that in many cases these institutions are being run without proper licenses, registration or security measures. He warned that if any accident occurs, a major disaster can occur.
