EC to issue public notice with other symbol, not Shapla to NCP
Senior Secretary Akhtar Ahmed said, since it is not in the rules, the Commission will not issue a Shapla symbol to NCP. The EC will issue a public notice with another symbol on its own initiative. He made this comment at a press conference at the Election Building on Monday (October 27) afternoon.
He said, 42,761 polling stations have been finalized for the upcoming parliamentary elections. There are 2,44,649 polling stations, about 12,000 temporary rooms. On an average, about 3,000 people will vote in one room. The final list of political party and observer registrations will be published this week. After the RPO is approved by the Advisory Council, the Election Commission will decide whether the party symbol will be used in the alliance elections.
The EC Senior Secretary said, according to the work plan, we are still behind on two issues. One is the registration of political parties and the other is the registration of observer organizations. In the meantime, we have collected some more information from the field regarding the registration of political parties. However, he expressed hope that the registration of new political parties and domestic observer organizations would be completed this week. Stating that there is no reason to worry even if there is a temporary delay, he said, “We are worried about the delay. But I don’t think there is any reason to worry. Because, we will be able to complete it within the time we have.” Responding to questions from media personnel on the referendum and symbol issue, Akhtar Ahmed said, “Since the Shapla symbol is not in the rules, there is no chance of giving it to the NCP, we have said this earlier. The Election Commission will issue a public notification with another symbol based on its discretion. Apart from that, I do not have any information about the referendum yet.”
