Earthquake in Cox’s Bazar and Chittagong at midnight
A 4.9 magnitude earthquake was felt in Cox’s Bazar, Chittagong city and various areas of the surrounding Chittagong Hill Tracts. At 12:57 pm on Monday (December 1), locals in Cox’s Bazar city, Ukhia and Chakaria were reported to have felt the earthquake. The earthquake was also felt in Chittagong city.
Locals said that the tremor lasted for a few seconds. No damage has been reported so far. The European Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), an international organization that provides earthquake information, said in its latest information on its website that the 4.9 magnitude earthquake originated in Myanmar.
