DUCSU candidate accused of stabbing roommate
Serious allegations have been made against Jalal Ahmed, an independent candidate for DUCSU elections. He stabbed his roommate in DU’s Muhsin Hall. Currently, his injured roommate, political science student Rabiul Islam, is undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College. An argument broke out over a trivial incident on Tuesday midnight, which escalated into a fight. When Haji Muhammad Muhsin came out of room 462 of the hall injured, others took him to the medical college. Students alleged that Rabiul’s roommate, DUCSU VP candidate Jalal Ahmed alias ‘Jalalamoye Jalal’, stabbed him. After the incident, Jalal locked him inside the room. Later, with the help of the university proctorial team and hall administration, he was handed over to the police. He was also accused of retaliating. Tension spread throughout the hall at midnight over the incident. Students demanded the permanent expulsion of the accused Jalal Ahmed and the resignation of the hall provost. The proctor assured that the hall administration will file a case in this incident. At the same time, the expulsion of Jalal from the university will also be taken into consideration. DU Proctor Saifuddin Ahmed said that the hall provost, two house tutors and officials have taken the accused to the police station. A case will be filed in this incident. The subsequent process of the case will be as per the prevailing law. Despite the proctor’s assurance, the tension in Muhsin Hall did not subside. Students demanded quick action by the administration to calm the situation.
