DU woman attacked with stick, accused in murder case
A video of a woman being attacked with a stick late at night at Dhaka University’s TSC has gone viral on social media. The university administration has formed a three-member investigation committee to investigate the incident that took place on Wednesday (February 25) night. Two accused students have been identified as the accused in the Kaliakoir murder case in Gazipur.
In the viral video, Ahmed Rakib, a student of the 2023-24 session of the Department of World Religions and Culture of Dhaka University, is seen being attacked with a stick. Shahriar Tushar, a student of the 2023-24 session of the Department of Theater and Performance of Dhaka University, is also seen in the video. In the video, the woman breaks down in tears and demands justice.
They claim that they came to TSC that night after having sehri from Old Dhaka. At one point, they are seen in the video complaining that they were harassed. The victim woman alleges that the student called her a ‘prostitute’. In the video, a woman can be heard expressing anger and saying, ‘Why are you raising your hands on me as a student of Dhaka University?’ It is noteworthy that the accused student Ahmed Rakib is an accused in the sensational Sabbir murder case that took place in Kaliakoir, Gazipur in September 2024. When asked about this, Shahbagh Police Station Sub-Inspector Swapan Mia said that they do not know anything about this. Dhaka University Proctor Saifuddin Ahmed said, ‘We have seen the video. We have formed a 3-member investigation committee to confirm the truth of the incident. We will take action later based on the committee’s report.’
