Drug dealer Roni shot dead again at Hatibandha border

A young man named Md. Roni (22) was shot dead again while smuggling drugs at the Hatibandha border in Lalmonirhat. Just 15 days ago, he was shot in the same way and went into hiding. The incident took place early on Wednesday (January 7) at the Daikhawa border in Gotamari union of the upazila. It has been learned that the injured Roni is the son of Md. Harun Aur Rashid of Gotamari village in Hatibandha upazila. According to BGB information, he is an identified drug carrier in that border area.
Lalmonirhat Battalion (15 BGB) said that while patrolling near border pillar number 902 in the morning, a patrol team of Daikhawa BOP heard the sound of gunfire. BGB members quickly went to the spot and saw that some smugglers were trying to remove a person who had been shot. The rest fled when the BGB chased them, but Rony, who was shot, was rescued. Later, he was quickly admitted to Rangpur Medical College Hospital under the supervision of the BGB. Doctors said that he is currently out of danger.
Investigation revealed that Rony was also injured in the pellet gun firing of the BSF at the border on December 22, 2025. After that incident, when the law enforcement agencies raided his house, his father denied Rony’s presence. He had been hiding for so long, basically avoiding the eyes of the BGB. Before he recovered, he was shot for the second time while indulging in drug smuggling.
Lt. Col. Mehedi Imam, Commanding Officer of the Lalmonirhat Battalion (15 BGB), said, “Despite repeated warnings, such criminal activities and illegal infiltration in the border area are very disappointing.” Identified drug smugglers are repeatedly entering the border, risking their lives, which is very worrying. He said that the process of filing a case against Rony under the Illegal Entry and Passport Act is underway. He sought the full cooperation of local public representatives and the public in curbing border crimes.
