Dr. Shishir arrested on charges of attacking anti-discrimination movement
The police have arrested Dr. Mahmudul Hasan Shishir (32), the health and population affairs secretary of the Rangpur Metropolitan Swechchhasebak League, an organization that announced its activities in the anti-discrimination student movement, in a case of attempted murder.
The Metropolitan Kotwali Police Station arrested him from the Gunjan More area of Kamalkashana early on Tuesday (November 11). He was produced in court this afternoon. Dr. Shishir is the son of Nizamuddin of Anantapur village in Fulbari, Kurigram. He lived in a rented house in Kamal Kachna in the city. Police said that he gave important information during the initial interrogation.
Kotwali Police Station OC Atwar Rahman said that the arrested Dr. Shishir is an accused in the attempted murder case of Shahidul Islam Sagar, who was shot during the anti-discrimination student movement. He is the Rangpur district office secretary of the Swadhinata Chikitsak Parishad (Swachip) and the health and population affairs secretary of the banned Metropolitan Swechchhasebak League. He is facing various charges of attacking a procession and firing during a protest.
Rangpur Metropolitan Police Commissioner Md. Majid Ali said that the arrested person had covered his body after August 5. He had recently come to Rangpur and was trying to organize terrorists in various ways. He was specifically involved in various activities to sabotage Sheikh Hasina’s verdict. He has been arrested based on intelligence information. He said that anyone who tries to conspire against the state or destabilize the situation in the country will be brought under the law.
