    Doctor suspended for negligence in patient’s death

    Relatives have alleged that a patient died due to negligence of a doctor in Gazipur’s Sreepur. The incident took place at the Sreepur Upazila Health Complex in Gazipur on Sunday night. In this incident, the relatives of the deceased tried to beat up the doctor and blocked him. After receiving the information, the police went and controlled the situation.

    Earlier, around 9:45 pm, the person was taken to the hospital in an ill condition. The relatives have alleged that the patient died due to the doctor in the emergency department not providing proper treatment.

    The relatives of the deceased said that the doctor in the emergency department, Dr. Bijon Malakar, staged an ECG drama. After a long time, a boy was given the patient’s ECG. After the ECG of the deceased, it was reported that the patient was alive and needed to be taken to Mymensingh Medical College (MMEC) Hospital immediately. He was taken to three separate hospitals at the Mauna intersection for examination. Doctors at all the hospitals said that the patient had died about an hour and a half ago.

    The family of the deceased alleged that the doctor in the emergency department of the Upazila Health Complex, Dr. Bijon Malakar staged an ECG to avoid responsibility. He referred the deceased patient to another hospital because he was alive.

    The deceased Naimuddin Sarkar (65) is the son of the deceased Kerumolla of Kewa Purbathand village in the upazila. The accused was the acting resident medical officer (RMO) Dr. Bijon Malakar.

    The deceased’s daughter-in-law Meem Akhter said that her father-in-law felt unwell at night. He was rushed to the upazila health complex. The doctor in the emergency department did not take proper measures. He gave an injection and sat in the room with the door closed. My father-in-law fell on the floor and was rolling around saying, “Doctor, save me.” We called out, but he did not come out. At one point, he died.

    Nephew Mozammel said that my uncle died due to the doctor’s negligence. His whole body went cold. Datta Bijon Malakar staged an ECG to hide his own failure. After a long time, he gave an ECG to a boy. Later, he said, the patient is alive. He was quickly referred to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital. The uncle died there. We went to three separate hospitals at Maona intersection to confirm his death. The doctors there said that he died about an hour and a half ago.

    Upazila Health Complex Emergency Department doctor and acting RMO Dr. Bijon Malakar denied the allegations of negligence and said, the patient was brought in sick around 9:45 pm. He was having chest pains. He was given first aid. Without saying anything, the patient’s people took him outside. After some time, they brought him and started shouting. When his condition deteriorated, we referred him to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital.

    Sreepur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Joynal Abedin Mondal said, the police went to the spot on the news that the patient’s people were blocking the doctor in the hospital. The doctor on duty did an ECG of the patient and said that the patient was not dead. He was quickly referred to another hospital. Later, I heard that the patient had died. Appropriate action will be taken if complaints are received.
