Doctor says ‘sorry’ after surgery on baby’s wrong eye.
A child was admitted to the hospital with a problem in his left eye. But the doctor operated on his right eye. The incident took place at the Dhanmondi Eye Hospital in the capital on Tuesday afternoon. When relatives informed about the matter, the patient underwent surgery on his left eye again.
It is learnt that the one-and-a-half-year-old child was taken to the Dhanmondi Eye Hospital by his relatives yesterday afternoon. The doctor confirmed the presence of dirt-like objects in his left eye. Later, after all the tests under anesthesia, he was taken to the operating room. After the surgery, the family members found that the surgery had been performed on the child’s right eye instead of his left eye. The relatives have demanded fair justice in this incident.
The victim’s uncle, Mahfuz Nafi, said, “My nephew had a problem with his left eye. But the doctor operated on his right eye. The doctor did not understand the matter. Later, we told the doctor, “The child was treated wrongly.” “The surgery was supposed to be done on the left eye.” Then the doctor said, “Oh my God, sorry.” He took the child back to the OTI, then operated on the left eye.”
In this regard, Dhanmondi Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Ali Ahmed Masud said, “If the victim’s family complains, we will take legal action. Whoever the culprit is, no concession will be made if we receive a complaint.”
Hospital director Professor Dr. Nazrul Islam said that an investigation committee has been formed into the incident. If the complaint is true, action will be taken against the culprits.
