The reason for the sit-in of dismissed army members at Jahangir Gate has been disclosed.
Members of the armed forces who, during the Awami League government, were dismissed or forced to retire have waged a sit-in in front of Shaheed Jahangir Gate of Dhaka Cantonment with three demands that include reinstatement.
Under the banner ‘Sahajoddha’, they staged the program around 11 am today, Sunday. At that time, they showed banners saying, ‘Military reform is going on; sorry for the temporary inconvenience’, and they chanted various slogans. This caused a jam on the road in front of Jahangir Gate.
The demands of those dismissed and compulsorily retired members of the armed forces that they should be reinstated with full salary, allowances, and all other benefits from the date of dismissal, or in case reinstate of armed force member is not possible then he must be included in the pension with all government benefits. The legal framework and this one-sided judicial system have to be changed; hundreds of members of the armed forces have been dismissed through these.
Later, the protesters left the Jahangir Gate area around 1:15 pm. At that time, Naimul Islam, chief coordinator of Sahojoddha said, the chiefs of three services have announced to form a committee within five working days. This committee will work to implement the demands of agitating dismissed armed force members.
