Disabled girl dies 5 hours after rape, 1 arrested

A disabled girl died five hours after being raped in Akhaura, Brahmanbaria. The accused youth named Tariqul has been arrested in this incident. On Tuesday (July 8), Akhaura Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Chhamiuddin confirmed the death of the girl around 12 noon. Arrested Tariqul Islam Tushar is the son of Md. Selim Mia of Gazaria village under Palash Police Station in Narsingdi district. According to multiple local sources, on Monday afternoon, a young man named Md. Tariqul Islam Tushar (21) raped a 15-year-old disabled girl at Pukurghat in the Kella Shah (R.) shrine area of ​​Kharampur in Akhaura. Hearing the girl’s screams, the locals rushed to the spot and informed the police. Later, the police and members of the shrine management committee tried to resolve the matter. Meanwhile, the victim died at around 8 pm and the police took her body to the police station at 11 pm. After the incident, senior member of the shrine management committee Rostam Kamran Khadem filed a case of rape and murder with the Akhaura police station. Based on the case, the police arrested the accused Tariqul Islam Tushar. Rafiqul Islam Khadem Mintu, general secretary of the shrine committee, said that Tariqul Islam’s behavior and speech were inconsistent. However, he confessed to the rape. Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Akhaura police station, Chamiuddin, said, “A case has been filed in this incident. During the initial interrogation, the accused youth confessed to the rape. Abnormalities were seen in his behavior.” He also said, “The rape case will become clearer after the autopsy of the victim’s body. The accused will be handed over to the court.”
